We are a Sussex based Health and Safety Consultancy, with a National reach throughout the UK, working with a diverse number of large clients across the construction sectors and built environment.  We pride ourselves on providing a consistent first class H&S advisory and technical support services to our clients 24-7.

We are a medium-sized professional Health and safety practice with a ten-year footprint as a consultancy service, with a combined team experience portfolio of over 80 years.

Part of the company’s USP is to break the mould of ‘traditional’ Health and Safety Consultancy provision, working seamlessly with our clients, forming strong professional bonds, which sees a fantastic retention of clients, who stay with us year on year.

Universal Safety Practitioners are proud to be part of the Armed Forces Covenant and we hold a bronze award for our commitment and the employment of members of the Armed Forces Community.

The Right Person

The successful candidates will need to have a pragmatic approach and the ability to work closely with clients, often on a daily basis, providing workable solutions to any H&S issues which may arise.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to join our dynamic professional team, who has the ability to make pragmatic and practicable decisions and work closely with clients on the implementation of the decisions made.

This is not a ‘light touch’ position. We work extremely closely with our clients. The right person will naturally be the first point of contact with clients, with full back-up from the wider professional team. We are fortunate to be involved in works with our clients, from the development of processes and activities, seeing this through to the completion and roll-out and ongoing management.

The ability to manage the day-to-day issues on client accounts as well as the provision of longer-term action plans and for the delivery of commissioned works on-time and right first time is key for the right candidate.

Position Summary:

We currently have a diverse range of commissions and are looking for Health and Safety Advisors with a good track record of experience within various industries, including

Construction:

This is likely to include Principal Designer and/or Project Health and Safety Advisor commissions for a range of projects ranging from ‘traditional’ construction through to renewable energy projects.

Our construction project involvement means that the right person can be on site in the morning and in the board room in the afternoon and be able to make the switch in approach and narrative. Likewise, we are looking for someone who can make the switch between clients and disciplines, sometimes in the same day!

R&D, as well as the ‘built’ environment:

We currently have ongoing projects with our R&D clients. This is very interesting and varied area of our provision to clients. R&D works include the ability to form part of HAZOP teams as well as the development of machinery and process risk assessments and safe systems of work.

In relation to the built environment we are looking for a safety professional which is comfortable with carrying out fire risk assessments and developing emergency response plans, as well as working on and assisting in development of action plans. Management of KPIs and working with clients on the development of risk control strategies. There will be a degree of compliance auditing as well as the development and implementation of workplace standards.

These works are likely to have national coverage, however, these are currently positioned within the south of the UK.

Ideally we are looking for a full-time employed roll for the right person. However we recognise that this is a highly rewarding but demanding role, so in order to engage the right person for the job, we will consider Full and Part Time employment and Self Employed Contractors for this role.
