What is CDM?

CDM refers to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, the most recent set of regulations that domestic and commercial construction Health and Safety projects in the UK must adhere to. Whether you are a homeowner arranging a self-build or restoration project or are representing a large-scale commercial construction of, you must comply with CDM regulations.

What is a CDM Principal Designer?

In 2015, the CDM regulations introduced the duty holder role of ‘Principal Designer’. The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) stipulates that a Principal Designer is the individual or appointed company to oversee and manage the pre-construction phase of any project involving more than one building contractor.

The Principal Designer (whether an individual or organisation) must demonstrate that they have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience (or organisational capability if a business) to carry out this very important duty holder position.
