What Does CDM Mean?

The CDM (Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015) is a compulsory set of regulations that govern construction projects in the UK. CDM regulations apply to both commercial and domestic building projects, whatever the size and scale. Whether you are commissioning a structural renovation job for your home, or you are representing a company that is working on a large commercial fit-out, you must comply with CDM 2015.

What is a CDM Principal Designer?

The 2015 CDM regulations introduced the duty-holder role of Principal Designer as a way to assign someone to manage, monitor, plan and coordinate the health and safety processes required in the pre-construction phase.

The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) describes the Principal Designer as either an individual or an organisation that must demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and experience (and organisational capacity if a company) to manage health and safety during the pre-construction phase.

Central Leisure Developments has worked with USP and in particular with Kevin Kerin for several years now to obtain all of our health and safety requirements across a broad range of exhibition projects from on-site installation to workshop safety. His knowledge and understanding of our practices and working methods ensure that all documentation is not only accurate but informative to all our staff. Time is not always on our side with the projects but we can rely on Kevin and the USP team to produce the documentation we need on time and in full every time, I would highly recommend Kevin and his team at USP to anyone’s business.

Mark Hurcombe, Project Director
Central Leisure Developments Ltd

USP have provided us with Health and Safety advice for many years now, including issuing our Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and carrying out Sit Safety Audits. They have taken the stress out of trying to keep up to date with all new legislations and they always provide us with a common-sense approach to incorporating any changes into our policies.

Kevin does not only cover all matters of Health & Safety; he also helps us generate new business and helps with all the legal jargon that comes with it. We would certainly be lost without his support, and he is always at the end of the phone. Kevin will always strive to assist with whatever the query and is a pleasure to work with.

We are delighted with his endeavours and no-nonsense approach and would happily recommend USP services to others.
